If your circumstances have changed and you can no longer care for your pet Russian, you are requested to make contact with your kitty's breeder as per your agreement with your breeder, or the Russian Cat Interest Group in order to assist with rehoming your pet.
If your circumstances are temporary and you have made detailed arrangements for your pet to be taken care of by a friend, pet hotel, breeder etc. you need to be fully aware that it is your responsibility to keep in contact with the person responsible for your Russian, via regular phone calls, text message or e-mail communication during that time. Also ensure that all costs for the upkeep, maintenance and care of your Russians are covered at regular intervals. If you reside in the area, bi-weekly or monthly visits are suggested.
Failing the above, and no contact has been kept and no attempt made by the pet owner to check on his/her Russian for 3 consecutive months or more, it has to be assumed that the Russian has been abandoned, the caregiver, or the Russian Cat Interest Group of South Africa, with the permission of the cats breeder has the right to put an abandoned Russian up for adoption to an approved home.
To give an example, the SPCA homes pets within one week of being abandoned.
